A complete lack of creativity

So… I got a bunch of ideas for topics to write about last week, and I was really excited to be finally writing again.  Only one problem… it’s all crap.  Just when I think I have a really great thought, I start to write it out, then I reread it five minutes later and it looks like someone threw up all over my computer screen, it’s that bad.

Who knows what my problem is… maybe I’m thinking too much.  Maybe I need a break.  Maybe I don’t.  Maybe tomorrow I will be suddenly inspired, and write something that is downright earthshaking.  I doubt that will happen, but who knows.  Stranger things have happened.  I wouldn’t hold your breath, though.

Comments

  1. I’ve never before commented on a blog entry…mostly because, generally speaking, I tend to doubt that anyone will consider my thoughts at all compelling. And I’ll not make the claim that this comment departs in any manner from my typical inanity…yet I feel compelled to leave it for you even so (and for this I will apologize in advance). It is thoroughly unnecessary for me to point out that the choice whether or not to care why another would seek to read what you write is entirely yours to make. For what it’s worth, I admire your facility with language, both in a technical and expressive sense…but, in the end, I am drawn to this place repeatedly because your words carry an authenticity that resonates within me for inexplicable (and likely uninteresting) reasons. Which is my ridiculously verbose way of saying that so long as what you write (or don’t write) is what and who and where you are at any given moment, then I will continue to seek it out…despite it being less than “earthshaking” and perhaps even because of precisely that. I thank you for the sharing of it, whatever it is.

  3. I\’m tellin\’ ya, Kenny…grocery list: blue cheese…broccoli… =)Ok, I need to stop reading what Mandy writes about you. Kelly

  4. **Laura throws Kenny some ranch dressing and a nose plug for the broccoli**……..that or just throw it under the table to the dog, they eat anything (that\’s what I do………) ;o) If all else fails, throw Mandy under the table…….!!kisses!me.

  5. I\’m sure whenever you decide to write whatever you decide to write, it will be a masterpiece, like always.

  6. Something will come to you!Darn writer\’s block.Have a good one!~B 🙂

  7. HI NEIGHBOR! I\’m in Washington, too! :o)

  8. You’re quotes on Davina’s space had me laughing……….My daughter is only 6 years old and she is a huge Jim Carrey fan. She has been begging me to take her to see Fun with Dick and Jane ever since she saw the first preview for it months ago on T.V. Her favorite is Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls and she is always saying quotes from that movie. Last week while having lunch with my friend and her boyfriend, my daughter busts out with:”Excuse me sir, your balls are showing…..Bumblebee tuna!” I was about 30 shades of red, but everyone else seemed to find it rather amusing……:o)~LorieI can\’t believe we drove around all day, and there\’s not a single job in this town. There is nothing, nada, zip! Yeah! Unless you wanna work forty hours a week…..

  9. Oops, I ment your quotes on Jenny\’s space…..

  10. Still waiting for…"This is the life"……uh, oh…Spaghetti O\’s!

  11. I have a bunch of saved drafts I\’ve not finished because I know where I want to go with them but can\’t get them right. Will they ever be? Does it really matter? Prolly not. I\’ve written whole blogs that I\’ve scrapped or just deleted a bunch out of the middle. I don\’t think I\’m the most interesting writer and I don\’t think there are many that can hold a candle to the way you write but I think I put way too much pressure on myself to come up with something good. Just what defines good anyhow? I have to remind myself that I can express myself without all the eloquent words, I guess.Still enjoying your writing very much. Something will inspire you!I had to go read your girl\’s love letter that keeps getting mentioned here. Beautifully written and expressed =) Happy New Year!Suz

  12. Yea, I\’m agreeing with the whole "this blog is your outlet" thing… so is mine, anyway! Although… all of us love to read anything you write. Just look at how many comments are being left at you just saying you have writers block. Insane, eh? If I told my friends I had writers block, they\’d just laugh and say I\’d get over it. Look at all the encouragement Kenny! We all love you, to read what you write, and to know youre doing ok. Now THAT\’S for sure!

  13. I\’ll wait, I\’ll be reading. I\’m doing the same. Holiday vacation. 🙂 *Jana*

  14. Well my friend…I did my best to convince your girlfriend that Washington totally beats out California. I hope I didn\’t overstep my boundaries. Sorry, but I couldn\’t resist! She\’s actually considering Cali! I hope my "gentle persuasion" works! We shall see. Don\’t be mad…I had to try! Love ya!

  15. Dude, you could write about a fly on the wall, or the vomit on your computer screen and people would and love it..(self included….)…You are a blog god…..lol!Peace and Happy New Year!RD

  16. What a tard I am….I meant people would still read it and love it……oh geez…who cares right…..tard out…

  17. Just blog surfing. Love your blog! Hope your holiday was memorable and fun, and I wish you a happy new year!A fellow Washingtonian,Sheyna

  18. Well Kenny i dont think it would have been crap i dont belive you could ever write crap.Just write when you feel like writng and not because you have a huge fan base , you should only write when you feel like it and even if its shit that dont make sense. Kenny you have written amazing blogs give your self a breather take time out course we will miss you but there is more important things then a computer like family and the girl that makes your heart skip a beat. Take care sugar pie. love ASH XXX

  19. I like everything you write ya think things write them – I totally believed in Santa too – so much so that I would really get to talking to those kids in class that would sort of be on the fence ya know? Anyway, one day I\’m watching "Family Feud" – yep I knew what "make-believe" was and man, that just about took all my breath away -ping- ping -there goes another one -ping- ping agh!!!! not that one too!! – NO WAY!!!!!!!! Well see I was worried for my mother because I thought that SHE believed in SANTA and I didn\’t want to ruin it for her! She was so convincing that I figured maybe Dad got them or something anyway, finally I was just too old, and getting a bit concerned about mom to tell you the truth, and mom sat me down, how funny was the moment that we BOTH said -"I don\’t want to ruin this for you!" -best to you – hope that you are doing well. -patti

I too have been unable to process an interesting thought for my xanga site. It\’s depressing to me that my life is so boring that I can\’t figure out anything to write about that I think someone else would find interesting.Heather

  21. I eat because I am unhappy, I am unhappy because I eat.wink wink

  22. You know what? Every piece of sh*t must have its moment too!How else would you explain some of my texts?! Heheheheh! ;)I wish you a wonderful 2006, filled with dreams come true!Rock on, Kenny*Claudia.

  23. Lol, I always have that complete lack of creativity when I\’m writing/typing BUT I\’m never lack of creativity when I chat 😀 Uhmm, actually not creativity but I think I talk too much. I guess I convey my thought easier that way than put it in writing even though its sort of the same way… I still have to type them! And about having sidekicks, I have too many…lol (I\’m not a big fan of batman and robin though…) Anyway, just come to wish you.. happy new year Kenny!

  24. The Jason lee quote from Vanilla Sky classic – My fav" You can\’t taste the sour with out the sweet, I\’ve tasted the sour, and one day I will find TRUE love, you\’ve only had the sweet."That is from memory it may not be perfect, but that movie is!

  26. Unknown says:

Yesterday, I had this stroke of pure genius.  I sat down and began typing away at a truly fast and furious rate. I was laughing so hard, I had to stop several times  to compose myself before continuing.

I finished editing the piece, gave it a final reading and thought “Stevie my boy, you are one very funny guy”.

    That was mistake #1.

    Then I posted it.

    Mistake #2.

I went merrily on my way, and damn near sprained my arm, patting myself on the back.

Went and had some dinner, and took a little post-prandial walk. Came back in the house, sat down at the puter again. Sure enough, on of the ‘faithful’ of my little tribe had already posted a comment on my new bouncing baby post, which of course I read immediately, in expectation of more wondrous words of praise for my continuing brilliance.

#3. (Are you catching the drift here?)

Now this particular reader has been with me literally since day one. My very first commenter, and the only human being on the planet that I know for sure has read every word I have written in my journal. It is he, and he alone, who has taken it upon himself to make sure that there is at least ONE comment on every entry I ever post. We have become friends, not because he is some sniveling sycophant, but because he is a genuinely warm, funny, and very kind man.

Well, his comment on my new entry immediately made me realize that something was amiss in Denmark.

    And also in Las Vegas.

It’s NOT what he said, it’s what he DIDN\’t say. Are you familiar with the phrase ‘faint praise’ ?  Yeah…

So, crestfallen, I go back and re-read the entry again, for like the 10th time. And ya know what? Sure enough, it was crap. I was embarrassed that I had even written it, let alone actually posted it.

So I hurriedly took it down (Thank God for the ‘Delete’ key), and then ran over to my friends Space to tell him I had deleted it, and apologize to him that his comment (which was actually very kind) had been deleted with it. As expected, he was most gracious about it.

I emailed another friend, whose judgment and instincts I highly respect, and she simply laughed, and said she had done the same damn thing – more than once.

So, what’s the point of this long harangue, on an entry of yours which is over three months old no less? (hmmm… wonder if you will even SEE this comment?)

Simply this: What you have described in this entry has happened to every single one of us, I can personally guarantee you.

At least you had the good sense to realize what was going on before it got ugly.

    Hope you are well,
     steve

  27. As a fellow blogger…I get it. It happens! So I just wait it out! Love your blogs though, and none of them have ever sounded barf-worthy. Well, at least not yet *narrows her eyes and raises her eyebrows*

  28. Morning Kenny~Hope you and the family are all well.  I\’ve been wondering how the start of your course is going.. early days I know.  Must be keeping you busy.. and right through to Christmas too. I hope you still have time to squeeze something in here before then.. would love to hear another christmas story for this year & re: last years story;  I\’ve always told Kieran upfront what the real deal is with Christmas, Easter etc.. but also made sure he kept it in the vault at school~not that I think he has.  Some say it\’s cruel.. Is it cruel? I don\’t think so..  It\’s the truth.  anyway Hope yoy have a good day today. 🙂
